Bonding in Parallel

From Tomie Hahn's book Arousing Sense:

"1. For a group: pair up and decide which column of the page you will write in. Online or via phone: contact your partner to say hello and ask whether they are ready. Explain the recipe (see “Opening Announcement” above), say goodbye, and begin writing.

2. Freewrite for approximately ten to twenty minutes, writing in your own column, in any style. My preference is to keep the writing to one page. Reminder: Do not disclose what the object is.

3. Contact each other again and share documents, cutting and pasting the partner’s text into the parallel column.

4. After you have exchanged texts, also share the identity of your objects. If you are conducting the recipe distantly, take a photo of the object and share it with your partner.

5. Have a discussion with your partner first (then as a group), noticing any parallels, correspondences, synergies, spacing, patterns, repeating themes, flow, shapes in text, and so on. Does the piece need a title? If so, how will you collaboratively create one?

6. Optional: As you and your partner discuss your collaboration, consider highlighting a word or single line in boldface in each column." (Hahn, 40-41)
