The Night has Houses expands on themes, both musical and impressionistic, of jazz standards like Night and Day, Midnight Sun, and ‘Round Midnight. The title comes from Cole wensen’s interpretation of the phrase noctes illustratas (literally enlightened nights) in her poem The Invention of Streetlights. This piece is a meditation on our journeys through life and how they are impacted by the lights that illuminate our paths- the ones we follow, and the ones we leave behind.
